Teyla stepped into the classroom to see the students were already there which was a given since she was slightly late. Late for her first class now she felt like an idiot.
"Ok, Sorry Im late class, Im Professor Imargin and I will be teaching a few different classes here at Durmstrang. Here you will learn two different subjects alternatively, Divination and Arithmancy. First lesson is focusing on Palmistry."
Teyla then put her bag down next to her desk and pulled the thick text book for Divination from her bag.
"Ok everyone please turn to page 163:" Once everyong had turned to the page Teyla began reading from textbook.
"The definition of palmistry is “The practice or art of telling fortunes from the lines, marks, and patterns on the palms of the hands”. Palmistry dates back from the prehistoric ages when hands were printed inside of the caves. Chinese were also known to have been using palmistry over 5000 years ago. Chinese divination believes that the lines on the Palms of the hand can predict a person’s fortune, attitude, health, character, marriage fortune etc. The finger bones, joints, nails and the elbow are examined in Chinese palmistry."
"Palmistry was divided into two subfields chirognomy (concentrating on the fingers) and chiromancy (concentrating on the palm). The Greek physicians Hypocrites were very knowledgeable about palmistry and were the ones who divided them up. The practice of palmistry was unfortunately forced underground by the Catholic Church who branded it devil worshiping. Anyone found to have an interest was quickly murdered. Which is strange because there are mentions of palmistry in the book of Job in the Christian Bible. “God placed signs or seals in the hands of men, that all men might know their works."
1. The Life Line: The life line does not indicate on how long a person will live, but provides a general picture of the subject’s quality of life. A strong downward curve indicates physical strength; a relatively straight line suggests limited endurance.
2. The Head Line: This line reflects a person’s intellectual capacities. It reveals creative potential, powers ob concentration, and problem-solving skills. A long line indicates the ability to focus.
3. The Heart Line: this line provides the key to understanding emotions. It reveals the subject’s style of interacting with others and his or her expectations regarding love and relationships.
4. Fate Line: This line indicates the degree on control one exercises over one’s life and circumstances. It also reveals how well a person handles responsibility and makes use of innate talents.
5. The Apollo Line: Sometimes known as the line of the sun, this line measures inner contentment. Not everyone has an Apollo line, but when it appears it’s a sign of capacity to enjoy life and derive satisfaction from work In some systems, a long Apollo line indicates good luck."
Teyla then putting the book down on the desk having now been seated behind it, "I would like for class to try as you can to find each of these lines on you hand and write down what you think the ones you can work out tell you."
